havent seen them around on ebay or anything - one of those one-eye strap on your head monitors so you can use a computer on the go - any suggestions/are they available?

I want to avoid:  found a few commercial projects, old version 200 bucks, new version a thousand....damn.

Thats old..
I've seen some of Steve Mann's students rigs. And their small.
Like this one. From 2003. I believe the screen is a 640x480 LCD, about the size of a thumb nail. :P Custom made keyboard, look at his hand.

When I met Steve Mann once, back in late 2002 he had a head mount display that used a laser that projected the image on the back of his retina. The who rig was looked like a head band. :P
The real expense is the getting get the LCD, little ones new cost crazy numbers.
