Should I make my general post in the Chatterbox or The Back Room forum?

Chatterbox is the place to post the majority of theads not specific to the other forums. In general you should not post overtly adult material here, or something you know is going to lead to such material being posted. The Back Room is there to cater for posts and threads of a more adult nature and you should use your common sense to decide when to use it. Common sense is not something that is in short supply on the Boneyard and you should not have much difficulty in making a distinction between what is 'adult' and what is not. If in doubt, fail safe and put it in the Back room. Please note that The Back Room is not an unmoderated, no-holds-barred forum, and posts should still adhere to the usual policies of common decency, courtesy and respect that any forum, be it online or otherwise, should demand of its members.

Mods and why we have them?

The Moderators of the Digital Boneyard forums ideally have very little to do. Moving the odd post to a more appropriate forum and watching out for the occasional rogue poster about sums it up. Otherwise it is a job of facilitation, trying to head off problems before they become problems, helping newcomers find their feet and assisting the Administrators in the day to day running, maintenance and development of the Digital Boneyard.

Tolerance and Respect

It should go without saying that posts in all forums should adhere to the usual policies of common decency, courtesy and respect that any forum, be it online or otherwise, should demand of its members. However, experience has shown that such basic tenets do indeed need to be spelt out for a minority of members. Use of disrespectful language hurts people. As such it is desirable for everyone to carefully consider and preferably abstain from any use of racial epithets, ethnic slurs and pejorative terms relating to ability, appearance, country of origin, home language, religion, sexual orientation or social class.. If you decide regardless to use hateful epithets such as bitch, faggot or nigger, or other slurs such as retard or spastic, action will be taken ranging from a gentle request to desist to a permanent ban. Context is important, as is the intent with which the words are used, and should the need arise these will naturally be taken into account. If you have any doubt at all as to whether a particular word or phrase is acceptable please feel free to PM any mod or admin. They will be more than happy to advise you. In general, if in doubt, don't post it.

Racist terms_will_result in a BAN

Racism is a particularly undesirable case of the above and again, as experience has shown, unfortunately needs a section on its own. It would seem obvious to most that terms such as nigger, raghead or kaffir should not be used on the Boneyard or any public forum. However as this is apparently not a universally accepted view it has become necessary to make this small addition to the Boneyard FAQ. For those few who desire to use racist terms here is the formal policy of the Boneyard. Racism is forbidden on the Boneyard, as it is on the vast majority of the internet. Use of racist terms _will_ result in a ban. There may be those who feel they should be exempt from such a ban for one reason or another. There are no exemptions. Nothing gives you the right to be racist or use racially charged words and phrases on the Boneyard.

Picture attachments

Pictures can be added to posts either by embedded link or by attachment. You should use the attachment method (which does not show the image in the post, but rather leaves a link for people to click on) when the image has a large filesize (say 100k+) or it has content of an adult nature. So if the file is big, or you would not generally show the picture to a child or your boss, then use the attachment or make an html link.

Sig pics and what makes a bad one?

Sig pics should not be too large in either filesize (not everyone is on cable) or physical size (which is just plain annoying). Your typical banner size should be a guidline as to the maximum dimensions - please restrict the vertical height especially. Always optimize whatever image you want to use, ideally makeing the resulting image less than 20k. Remember that each post in a thread may have a different sig pic and those sizes soon mount up. Sig pics should not have any content that cannot both be shown to a child or your boss. That's just common sense, but sometimes needs to be stated.

Hijacking threads

This happens when a thread goes completely off-topic for no good reason to the detriment of the original thread. It's hard to make a clear cut definition of when not to do this because sometimes great fun can be had from such activity. But do try to at least be concious of the intent the threads creator had when they started it. If you deliberately make an off-topic post be aware that you have done it, and that it may be seen as a lack of respect towards the person who started the thread. It all comes down once again to the same common sense, common decency and respect for others you should all have.

Religion and Politics

This is simple don't post about it , these topics will end bad! so please just don't post about it.
