Stupid computer....finally got Windows and Linux running side by side....but my backup HDD didn't detect right and then got setup by Windows as MBR....

I appear to have lost everything on a backup drive....all my mp3s, etc.

I'm using PCInspector to retrieve the data, but it just gives me back a bunch of chunks of data that I have no idea what to do with....I don't really understand this freeware program

Does anyone have any experience with a commercial software that they would recommend for this task?

try ontrack easy recovery.

I got it all back using Stellar Pheonix Data Recovery.

Love that it is a 40 GB HDD but it had over 50 GBs recoverable.

Ive used the ontrack recovery and getdata back, both I recall being good.

But just hope theyre all ok.
I had to recover a bunch of mp3s once and it garbled em up.
I did however have a crapload of really cool mixes going on hah.
metal, to country, to rap in 40 seconds.
