Are they divx or xvid? Just use VLC to play them.

CCCP - it installs hali, ffdshow, and a bunch of codecs, and you can have it install MPC and/or zoomplayer standard.

Absolutely & that's how it should be imo. I hated installing ffdshow and all the other crap. There is very little VLC won't open.

I can't pinpoint why but I've never really liked VLC, always preferred MPC in windows.

But then again I'm the type to get frustrated if I can't use my mouse wheel to jog forward/back.

I actually like MPC's interface better than VLC's (and it did take me some time to finally decide to convert). I miss MPC but I don't like dealing with all that codec crap. I wonder if keeping the .dll's in the same folder as MPC would work though? Hmmm...

What I do like about VLC is the more time you spend with it's features, the more you get out of it. But it does well out of the box, so to speak.

I kinda like having the mouse wheel set as a fast volume level control for when I'm starting to fall asleep and loud noises like guns or jet noises start being heard. *lol*

Well, the new VLC has made improvements. It's slow, but I'll take what they give.

for some reason I don't like the vlc interface and mouse controls.

This machine is my cousins and she's used to cyberlink

The codec pack I installed seems to be working good with cyberlink and media player.

I still use MPC with K-Lite codec pack.. You have your choices betwen light, regular, full, and mega depending on what you need/want

Media Player Classic

MS was going to retire the old windows media player (I think it was version 4?), that last one that was actually decent. Instead a group of developers bought it and turned it into Media Player Classic. Or that's at least what I was told.

As the name suggests it's bare bones classic media player, but tweaked to be compatible with any codecs/filters you use. Just play my videos, or my music files, without f-ing up or taking excess resources away from other tasks. When it comes to windows media players, it kicks ass and decimates all.

It also runs as a small standalone exe, so you can drop it on a memory stick with a few filters and be covered for all formats no matter what computer you're using, and better playback quality than VLC.
