Ive seen a few of these.
Im trying to figure out whats going on. I tried computer management Disk Management, I have drives 0-7, nothing for 8.
I see I have many of these...

if it's always the same drive, that drive may be going bad.
if it's on a seperate controller then it's most likely the controller having issues,
you can update the OS, the firmware of the controller,or turn off disk caching.

Nod, but im trying to figure out which drive it physically is.
0,1,2, and 3 are physical hdds. 4,5,6 and 7 are my multicard reader. there is no 8.

device mgr. properties of the drive.
your cardreader may be logical 2,3,4,5 etc. first drive may be 0 the other drives fill out the rest

All I seem to find in devmgr is the ide/sata channels, no disk #s.
Disk management has em 0,1,2,3. and I download some winobj and that said the same thing

in devmgr, click on volumes, then click populate, look at disk, it will id it for you.

Nod, well they were a bit mixed up, hdd, cardreader, hdd, etc.
But still nothing shows up for 8, just 0-7

remove the multi-reader and see if it continues.

time to remove stuff to find the culprit.

I dont think its causing anything serious.
But again, Im trying to learn more about pcs and what not so its these lil things that baffle me.
like how my old motherboard would freeze at post on a restart or immediate start after a shutdown.

I like how they say sata is hotswappable then I learned only if ahci is turned on and that opens another can of worms.

it can cause harm in the form of corrupt data, trust me, I was getting that on my w2k server and ignored it, well most the eval apps on that drive were corrupt. zips, rars, avi's.
