Haha, that's how I felt when I got my first one years ago, back in high school. But in the end, it really was so much more convenient.

I recently caved and bought a cell phone as well last week.

Ive always had cell phones mind you but on pay as you go and just never used them because I hated them so much. After using my ipod touch constantly for almost 2 years I decided to get an iphone. Despite my hate for apples walled gardens I'm so happy with this device and everything I can do with it.

For the first time ever I have a cell phone that I carry with me everywhere I go now that's always charged. I got one of the new 3gs phones that goes into restore mode if on reboot after jailbreak so Ive gone legit with it and purchased all of the apps I use. Even after all of that I'm still happy with the purchase.

I will never cave. The rest of you will die before your time from a brain tumor. Have fun while you still can.

Lol, I can think of a few more pressing things that most people will die from before cell phones ever do it.

Who really knows what affect cellphones will have on people. I have never owned one because I hate the telephone (land or cell). I prefer talking to people face to face. Cellphones have turned everyone into rude assholes.

Well, since everyone else has a cellphone I'm not worried about that. I'll take my chances.

I got the cheapest one I could. it's fucked up here, the phone is tied to the provider so you have little choice in phones. I bought a cheap samsung phone. I chose the provider.

I'm currently visiting out of town, but I was still surprised today that I filled my text inbox in 3 days of having the damned thing :P (which is a pathetic 100).

Get a smart phone next time... Practically unlimited message storing on the new ones! Although I've gotten away from using texts to most people and simply use blackberry messenger or gtalk or something else kuz instant messaging is just so much more damn convenient accross multiple carriers.

Canada = proprietary software required and arm + leg for service agreement.

Everyone I know with a crackberry or iphone w/ data plan pays >60 dollars/month. Most pay ~100/month.

I pay about 35-40 for plain jane phone (x2 phones, me and wife)

$20/month (Pay as U Go) = 1000 texts, .01/min evenings and weekends (in and out).

I bought my own motorola phone from Rogers and modded it for full functionality.

Sucks for you guys, man. I pay like 40$ for my bb with data and messaging. I had to kill navigation and visual voicemail and other things to get that price point, though.

What I wonder is,.. is those 100 text messages on the phone that important, that one can't just delete the messages every couple hours, or whatever.

I pay $50 a month. But the only people that call me seem to be Rogers. Pfft.
Only have a couple friends I talk to all the time. And texting is best. So I use the Canaday wide My5. Its only about $10 more than I was spending with pay as you go.

I just like that fact that I can drop down to console, and bash my brains out on mine.

I have Fido, and an iPhone, my plan is $35 for 350 min, unlimited n/wkds, unlimited text, $30 for a 6GB internet plan (it was a promo), $10 iPhone value pack. It's still cheaper than what I was paying with Rogers. I was paying at least $10 more a month with them with 150 minutes and 1500 text, 5MB of internet.

I love my iPhone though, the tethering really came in handy when I hadn't had internet installed in the apartment yet, and I need to look for jobs.

When I worked for AT&T though, their plans were always much better than anything Canadian companies had to offer though.

AT&T sucks for the most part in the US. Verizon is the way to go. Much better coverage (no dropped calls). (From what I have read and friends tell me).
