picture log http://m2h.ca/drivecage/backstory ITX case only had a 3.5 and 5.25 bay. Tried to mount a second 3.5 HDD in the optical bay, but the holes were wacky (non standard). So I made my own drive cage, and got 3 drives in there. There is 1/4 inch space between each drive, and a 80mm fan blowing directly across them from the farside.

Are you concerned that the proximity of the drives to the fan (electromagnet) might cause a loss of data?

Probably not nearly enough magnetic power to do anything.

No different case. I ordered two of these cases awhile ago. I have a case of case addiction.

Picked up another 500GB, .. shame my board only has two SATA connections. Since I to move large amounts of files around. And...... buggar all my IDE/SATA USB case, doesn't have a SATA power adapter in it. WTF. Why do my cheap purchases always have to give me cheap punches.

Are you concerned that the proximity of the drives to the fan (electromagnet) might cause a loss of data? I recently discovered the vibration of a fan can have serious consequences on drive speed. There is a nice video out there in the wild proving this. So I'm more concerned about that now.

Do you have any cooling for them? A nice 120mm fan blowing at them would be good. Increase their lifespan.
