I have been running Windows 7 Pro x64 for about six months now (on spare computer). It's pretty good. I have been trying out all the apps that I regularly use. No problems. I'm thinking of redoing my main computer with Win7 (the XP install is getting old and slow).

BTW, running 4GB of RAM with dual-core CPU running at 2.6GHz.

I have been running Windows 7 Home Premium x64 since November on my laptop with no x64 related issues at all. It has run everything I've thrown at it, and it's fast.

Laptop is dual core 2.53GHz sometimes OC'd to 3GHz with 6GB of RAM

I don't know if I will stick with 64-bit Windows. None of my computers will have over 4GB of RAM until I build a new one with a Core i7. I use some apps that have a 64-bit install, but it doesn't do or perform any different than the 32-bit install. I like to format and reinstall my OS every 6-8 months, so if I decide to go to 8GB of RAM, I'll change the OS.

For some reason people think the 64-bit version of an OS is faster than the 32-bit version. It can be in certain situations using a 64-bit application, but regular use of Windows there is no difference.

I just upgraded to X64 Professional W7, I need it for my works Parametric Modelling software. I run a Quad with 8 gig ram. its really cool for X64 Crysis too

I'm liking it more and more. Stability is great and no problem running my usual apps. I haven't tried gaming yet (lost the passion to game a few years ago). I'm still using my test computer so the graphics card is old (6800 GT) anyways.

If you don't have to run 64 do not install it. Driver updates and versions for 64 regularly lag behind x86. Generally support for 64 is slower and sometimes nonexistent.

With Windows 7 and the X58 chipset being popular, 64-bit drivers seem to be doing fine. If you run 4GB or less of RAM then the 32-bit version of Windows is recommended. Obviously 6GB+ of RAM you use 64-bit.

Gamers tend to stick with 4GB of RAM and 32-bit Windows. Tests have shown that more than 4GB of RAM does little to nothing for games. A faster CPU and faster GPU are better investments. Plus, games tend to run a little faster in 32-bit Windows (maturity).

I have run into zero driver/software issues with my Windows 7 64 install. I do remember witnessing a buddy of mine go through moderate compatibility issues with his XP 64-bit edition box but that was sometime back in early 2005(?).

For emulation purposes, MAME benefits greatly from the 64-bit addressing as well as highest dual core chip you can afford (not optimized for more than two cores presently, but devs have hinted support may happen soon). For what it's worth I can run most PS2 games full speed on my laptop, and some Gamecube games full speed.

Crysis I can run full FPS with all the pretty shit on, although I don't think it's much of a game *shrug*.
