Here are my mixed impressions:

iPad has to be the dumbest name since the Wii, but that took off so I guess a name isn't everything.

It's far, far, far better looking device to me than Amazon's Kindle in every way. I just had an absolute problem with how that device looks.

I think they would be useful for some of my needs- e.g. I like the idea of something that size/portable for sheet music when I'm playing guitar, or maybe for recipes in the kitchen.

I have already seen the thing with an external keyboard connected to it, and that looks plain stupid and kind of defeats the point.

Don't see the big deal about no FLASH personally because YouTube is going with HTML5 video (eventually).

Is there anything iPad can really do that a decent Netbook can't?

I would like to see an iPad in action. If they had a version where I could use it onscreen with something like my Wacom, I'd buy it immediately.

Why do people care so much about how their electronic devices look? Just a bunch of dumb stuck-up assholes. It's not supposed to be a fashion accessory. Apple has a bug up their ass about Adobe. Flash will never be on any of their devices. It could be a while before HTML5 makes it's appearance.

The iPad is expensive (nothing new). You could build a nice desktop PC for the same money. If Apple can get true multitasking on the iPad with OS 4.0 things would look better. Video support is VERY limited (only decode H.264 video up to 720p, 30 frames per second, Main Profile level 3.1 with AAC-LC audio up to 48kHz. The only containers supported are .m4v, .mp4 and .mov). Sounds like a lot of converting will need to be done, but I'm sure their is an App for that.

I currently use my ipod touch as an ereader (my wife has a Kindle, I think it looks like ass), so for that purpose, I find the ipad intriguing. Aside from that though, I can't really justify the price tag for an over glorified touch pad mini-laptop.

Should you buy an iPad...

Because they plan on using them daily and want them to look nice? To some it probably is a shallow status symbol, to others it's more about simple clean design.

I finally gave up when I realized I had to put linux onto it.

So I sold it.

The Ipad looks nice, but like every tablet before it's got half the power of a same cost laptop.

Jobs doesn't care about gamers, game designers or 3D animators, so like the mac laptops its going to have crappy 3D/Game support.

I use Valve source. Doesn't work on mac unless you use cedega.
I'll buy a noname win/lin pad-style computer.

I've finally broke from Mac for good. The .mov format with Final Cut Studio was something I was actually using a lot in broadcast, but screw it, I don't need FCP THAT badly that I'd buy something that I can't really run zbrush/mudbox/max/Source and a dozen other things on.

FYI. I honestly believe Jobs has put a back door in OSX later versions.

I used to think it would be nice to get a mac if I had the cash, because they are styley, but there's not much point if I can't deathmatch with windows users, or I can't build levels for windows machines.

In 2 years there will be so many Touch and Ipad clones out there with fully customizeable OS' that nobody is gonna care about the overpriced Mac crippled bloatware.

As a sysadmin, managing Macs sux. Jobs has been lazy on the administration control for too long. If I owned a business, even a design one, their would be only a single mac in the place, for mounting mac drivesystems to copy stuff over. Everything else would be windows or linux.

Yeah, I saw that there is a port of Adobe Flash running on iPad. Doesn't change my feelings one bit. If I was to buy an iPad, I would wait for the next generation. Many shortcomings should be addressed, if Apple is smart. It's the same as with all their other shit. Put out a new product that has a lot of promise, but comes up short, then release a new version every 6-8 months that fixes/updates one thing at a time. It's all about the money and the sheep just keep buying.

I would be fine if Apple supported, but doesn't have to directly, people doing whatever the fuck they want on the hardware.

So I like Google/HTC, cause they in/direclty support hacking the fuck out of the OS / decvice. As for Carriers .... the whole mantra of Device/Carrie drives me looney mad.

Well, after some reading, the Flash plug-in that works on the iPad is only for animation and games (no video). Frash is still in very early development stages and the big problem, you have to jailbreak your iPad to use it. Bye-bye warranty.

I still say that Zerostar have a good point about stop wasting time make useless crap and insted develop a teleport...
