So my sister (who's a real bitch) told me she wouldn't use the blu ray player i just bought her for her birthday so i decided to keep it. I need a new tv though since my old one has no hdmi inputs and hell... it's a bloody box.

i wanna spend between $300-400. Is this a decent tv? After some surfing i thought this was ok.

that tv is only 720 so you won't get the higher pic quality.
look at these. might be able to find them cheaper.

how does contrast ratio factor in... some of those tv's were 2000:1 or 3000:1 ratio where the lg is 50,000:1

is that important at all?

Higher is better. Plasma has better contrast than lcd (because its not filtering backlight, its creating light in each pixel).

Apples and oranges. Anything with adaptive motion/colour/contrast is garbage.

the higher the contrast, the beter the blacks.
an example, being able to seperate a person in a black suit standing in the shadow of a dark dark room.

but there's a limit on how much contrast a human eye can detect, so all these high numbers end up being a sales gimmick. I read this in avs forum and a fw home theater mags.

Yeah, I wouldn't worry about contrast ratio. The advertised number is almost always higher than actual ratio. 120Hz is definitely better than 60Hz for LCDs, especially if you will be watching Blu-Ray.

$300-$400 is a tough price range for a 1080p TV (which is what you want to view Blu-Ray). Plus, a 7.1 A/V receiver is needed to get the full experience. A TV is a big purchase. It's something that should last you many years. It's wise to make an informed choice for a product that will serve you well.

Save up more money and then make a better purchase.

yeah, if you can wait a bit and save go that route. also receiver 7.1 and speakers polk.
I prefer the pioner elites. there's not much of a price gap between the top end pioneer and the bottom end elite.

speakers, I prefer polk either in-wall or satellites with a polk sub.
trust me, once you hook up some polks to a pioneer, it'l put some esoteric high end shit to shame.

What about the Hz rating for gaming? Espescially if you are hooking up to a PC? I read lower is better. Gets all confusing.

You want at least 1000:1 static ratio for decent black. Anything higher is usually dynamic. I understand Plasma has better color saturation than TFT. So does IPS.
