Well first things first,

Second, on what you saying about the GPL seems fairly sound. I am all of for GPL and copyleft. I originally put that statement in my reply because on the developer's site there seemed to be a bit of reluctance to make his program open source.
"
This is Meteorite!
World the FIRST and ONLY MKV/Matroska Repair program.
This why could easily sold as a proprietary program like hot cakes..."
is exactly what this person says on the developer page
here Third,
It's GPL, which means that it is and will always be open source...you can't revoke code that has been GPLed. The worst case is that the developers decide to release future versions of Meteorite under a more restrictive license, but even then the existing GPLed versions can be picked up by others.
The last thing, open source community needs is another forked project. In my opinion, this is one of the pitfalls of the open source community. That been said, I understand projects fork for various different reasons and do not really want to create a bulleted list to validate my statement, but I am sure a little googlefu and some reading and a list could be constructed.
Last, I did happen to read
this and I actually own a hard copy, so I am last the person against open source, and the GPL. If you have the time I would highly recommend reading the book.
Ohh, and the program did not fix the MKV file :-O
