the higher the Hz the better the refresh rate which should be good for gaming. unless your graphics card is crap.
I would still choose a plasma over a lcd.

120Hz is the way to go (for LCD). They do have 240Hz (it's really 120Hz enhanced), but it doesn't seem much better (as of now). The high-end plasmas are 600Hz. I would get a Panasonic plasma (took over Pioneer's plasma tech). The G20 is the more affordable line. The VT25 is the high-end. The V20 is the middle man.

I agree with HB, the Pioneer Elite A/V receivers are real nice. The VSX-32 is a new 7.1 model that can be had for ~$800 USD. I'm a real fan of Cambridge Soundworks and Klipsch speakers. Polk is real nice also (have a Polk MOMO sub in my truck).

We're all coming over to watch the game on your new set. On your computer make sure you take all your questionable files and put them in a folder called pr0n so we don't find them.

As I was saying -- static contrast ratio and decent framerate are important. multiples of 60 hz are good, because they don't do much interpolation, they just draw the pixels more often. Anything with 'smooth motion' or equivelant bullshit is guessing the in-between frames and makes for wicked motion blur (even if its smooth). Dynamic contrast pisses me off as the whole screen dims about a second after a visual change from light to dark, so its got better contrast only after a nauseating fade -- like someone is fucking with the contrast/brightness controls as you're watching. Just get a quality panel and have it display the damn source signal without any fucking around with it by the processor...
