My brother gave me his son's old PS2 to mess around with. It's been sitting in a box for a year or more, and I haven't even checked yet to see if it still works =op

I found a couple of old posts about installing Linux on it, but it looks like this activity is not very popular these days with PS3 and xbox taking over people's interest. Haven't found an active PS2 distro yet.

I'm not terribly interested in the gaming aspect of it, but I would still be willing to listen to suggestions in that area.

If you should decide to actually play PS2 games on it, God of War I & II will not disappoint.

I guess I won't be putting Linux on this. Apparently there is no available distro that runs stably on the SCPH-750xx and later (this one is 77001) =op

Maybe i'll just use it for a DVD player.

I've got a copy of Final Fantasy VII that was packed away with the console...I hear it's great. It doesn't look like much fun to me.

Donate it to someone that could use it.

Ah yes the Slim's don't actually support Linux. It was the Fat's that did, also a HDD would be required, plus VGA cable, with a monitor that supports Sync-on Green (most Samsung LCD's support that). V12 (yours is v15) was the last model, and first Slim, that still had traces for IDE support. The chipset changed afterwards.

Anyhoo.. soft mod it. With FreeMcboot Noobie Package. Uses a standard PS2 memory card. I found most 'backups' run on it. Plus I found usefull the media player included in the Noob package great, for streaming over SAMBA network, or localized USB drive for movie playback.

I could send you out a soft modded memory card, but I'd prolly never get around to it.

I remember a shitload of emulators coming out for PS2. As popular as PS2 got, I'm sure there's plenty of that kind of homebrew.

I like the idea of using it like m2h's talking abooooot.

That's worth money now that it's out of print... Final Fantasy fans consider it a collector's item.

Original (black binding) $80 CDN
Greatest Hits edition (Green Binding) $60
