Woot woot!

MSI P67A-GD53 mobo LGA1155 socket
PCI-e 16 x2
USB3 x2 on board + 2 front panel
Everything else you expect...I like spdif optical audio smile

Corsair cx500 psu. Kill-a-watt tells me it draws 295 watts at full cpu/gpu load.

4GB 2x2 Corsair ram

ASUS ENGTX460 nvidia GTX460 vid card - went with 'affordable'
1gb ram
stays ice cold (40C) at graphic load!
Spits spdif audio out thru the dvi port to hdmi adapter -- so only one cable needed for tving.

Upgraded cooler for cpu...

Random case...

2TB WD Green drive as main drive. I want an SSD, but not 'that' bad, and even the green loads SC faster than most other players in a queue so I'm okay with it.

8GB kingston thumb drive on usb2.0 as ReadyBoost

....Win7 Ultimate 'legit'.

So far I love it. Can play everything I can throw at it at reasonably higher than I notice framerates at 1080p on the projector.

I think I can squeak another video card in sli on this psu, but it'll be pushing it to 80% of rated, and that's not healthy for it.

Forgot to mention, it's 3.3ghz overclocked to 4.2ghz in the 'quick oc' settings in the mobo. apparently this chip doesn't mind to go up to 5ghz. sonofa.

Still debating my motherboard since that p8p67 pro hasnt come into newegg since the recall business.
I might grab that asrock extreme 4.
Then to decide on that damn case issue and I think its a wrap.
I have the green 2tb wd as well, but was thinking of putting the OS on something else.
I have a boat load of drives in there, 400gb, 500gb, etc.
I think ill run one of them hdd speed tests and whichever one is the winner..
right now os on a 250gb and it makes some clicking sounds, its about done I think.

I'm pretty happy with the WD green - my only speed benchmark is comparing load times while in mutiplayer games watching the load bars, and ironically, my green drive outperforms on 'ultra' most 'average' people.

Also using an 8gb on readyboost. Made the system a lot slower for first loads of stuff, but 2nd+ loads are WAY quicker laugh

I was never sure if readyboost was worthwhile.
Cuz I had a bunch of sd cards or memsticks lay around and not in use really.
Hows the MSI board so far? I had one way back and had an issue with onboard raid adding 10-15 secs to boottime with NO way to disable it.
So still a little raw bout that.

boot to win start is about 5-10 seconds, windows start is another 10...I could time it exactly but its really quick.

I heard the chipset had a problem killing sata ports, but that's been fixed with this revision.

The B2 revision of the the P67 chipset had a potential degradation of the SATAII (3Gb/s) ports. There was the possibility of data corruption and stuff. Very small percentage that it will happen, but that's enough to cause a recall and new revision. Really not a big deal, but if you are spending good money on a new motherboard, you might as well get 100% stable hardware (if that exists).

msi? wellpersonally I stopped using msi motherboards cause they were crap, had too many that died the last two would start booting to windows them BS, replaced everything and new drive and still the same, it was the board in both cases. these were 2 or close to 3 year old boards.
the other worse part is rma, it's a online form and they get back days later with a rma and once shpped one took almost a month for a retun, another one they sent me back a different inferior board.

Sadly they just dont get them asus p67 pros in.
And I was debating the gigabyte. Last 2 were gigabyte but I kind of wanted to try out the new BIOS.
Other than that I think its a good bet as well.

The ASUS P8P67 Pro, 2500K CPU,
G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600. And at 75, why not, i got 2 sets
And a COOLER MASTER Hyper 212 Plus
And a cooler master 912 case. Case im not too worried bout. friend might ditch his antec 900 and gimme. I just needed a new box
Altogether a bit more than Id like but hey, i barely treat myself and might as well while I still have a few bucks.

Well since Im not ordering an SSD anytime soon,w hat would be the better choice for my OS drive?
250 162.5MBps average read 52.9, random access 13.3ms
500 213.3 61.5 14.6
2t 232.2 98.9 16.4
those are the 3 I have now and the specs according to hdtach.
the 2tb has best numbers obviously but is it still bad idea to mix your OS with your data drive? or with speeds now its not that big of a deal?

As for OS drive, enough room for OS, installed games, and applications. So personally I find 500GB to be baseline now. I also use the OS drive as my scratch disk for downloads. Then move them to the data only drives.

I normally use a seperate os drive and it's always the smallest either a 160 or 250.
it depends on you plan to use the pc for also.
on my new htpc, I have a 1tb drive for the os and 1tb drive for data, most the data are on my servers . on my rarely used gaming pc, I have only a 1tb drive.

Ill make a 100gb partition on the 2tb and leave it at that for now if and when I get an ssd.

With windows 'home folders' integration, I find it a pita to use separate drives if I plan to use any inbuilt windows functionality for default storage locations -- I have everything on a 2tb

1TB is my new standard although that's not to say I wouldn't use a 500GB; it just seems that's where the sweet spot price point is for drives is 1TB right now. I actually still have a few machines that only have 40GB drives.. all I need is room for Windows 7, Photoshop, Illustrator, Firefox and UT3 and I'm good.

I'm worried that whenever I buy my first SSD I'll want to upgrade every other unit, lol.

Price difference between 1tb and 2tb was like 10%, I had to go with the 2.

I still won't buy anything bigger than 1TB. Reliability seems suspect above 1TB. A 120-256GB OS drive is plenty for me. I'm still waiting for the dust to settle on the new SSDs.

TheGlow, making a 100GB partition on the 2TB won't help performance wise. Using one of the smaller drives for boot drive and using the larger ones for storage would be a better choice. You're just going to get yourself in trouble (as usual ). smile

BTW, the Z68 chipset will be on sale May 8. I'll wait for one of those boards before I go with SandyBridge. The P67 got out all of the kinks.
