Worth giving it a shot?

Good luck getting the rebate. I haven't done a MIR in many years. They always seem to find a way to deny the rebate because of something stupid (usually a lie). If it's not "instant" rebate, forget it. I would hold out for one of the new SSDs with a 2nd Gen Sandforce controller or even an Intel 510. The 510 is not the fastest, but for an OS drive, it will do just fine. Plus, they are the more reliable SSDs. The new Micron C400 is not bad either (based on a slight newer revision of controller in the Intel 510). The only problem I have with Marvell controller in Intel 510 and Micron C400 is that you need to get a 256GB or higher to get full write speed potential. The Sandforced based drives don't have that problem (or to the degree that the Marvells do).

Every rebate I've ever sent in for has eventually arrived -- aparently hw manufacturers re-sell your info from the postcard for upwards of $10 each. ...just always takes forever.

It's not worth the hassle, to me. These companies actually make a ton of money off the rebate money. The reason it takes so long to get the money is because they hold on to it in an account and incrue interest (not sure if I used correct terminology).

Normally i dont factor in the rebate, but 30 of 110 or so is more than 25% so Id go for it.
But yea, seems its sold out but now they have the Crucial RealSSD C300 64gb for $119.99
Still unsure which to get because ssd's scare me with the random dying incidents.

You just need to back them up, and having both a 64 boot drive and a 2tb backup drive, having daily full backups hardly makes a dent in the 2000gb drive.

Hmm, never thought about actually setting up a backup system like that.
My friend gave me an intel ssds because he jacked it from the store.
Since I knew id be building a new pc soon i didnt bother installing OS on it, just put warcraft and starcraft on it and it died 2 weeks later.
Damn neweggs making me mad. everytime i change my mind and decide to order something, something else gets yanked from my cart saying out of stock.
memory i wanted to get was $25 off, now sold out. and then the ones not even on sale are sold out. this is getting annoying. I dont wanna order in pieces and have them sitting here, taunting me.

i have a 128GB SSD in my laptop. i only paid $150 CAD for it though, brand new smile

it had shipped with a laptop that someone purchased through a mutual vendor. the other guy wanted a larger drive, so he just paid to upgrade to a 500GB whatever at the time and didn't take or want the SSD drive that came from the factory with his laptop. they kept it and i went in asking about them and voila...they had one...they sold it to me and i haven't looked back.

this thing screams!!! (in speed...not volume)

and 128GB is more than enough for my laptop
