hasn't always froze it's a recent thing. just the other day i said to myself that my computer hasn't froze in months and months. i honestly started to believe that i was causing the lock-ups just from thinking about it.

what have you installed or updated recently?
the windows update will tend to update drivers with microsoft versions, check all your drivers to see if they are from the manuf.

I had a server that was using the microsoft raid controller drivers and the server wasn't stable until I loaded the intel raid drivers. and also updated the bios. since then hav't had one issue.

running western digital data lifeguard diagnostics. got that from their website.
also figured out how to update bios.

as soon as the diagnostics are done i'll take a look at the drivers.

well I'd say start looking for a new drive . I never trust a drive that has developed bad sectors ! sooner or later it will happen again .

1 ram could be unseated
rare, but ram could be damaged
power supply could be damaged because of power spikes, if you didn't have it plugged in to a surge protector
old power supplies will sometimes spike too, and even damage ram

check for odd processes? CCleaner is good.

sometimes doing a full patch application helps, I use ctupdate to make a update service pack patch dvd, in the process of updating sometimes things get fixed that the windows update dl doesn't fix.

my suggestion is to disable all unnecesary startup processes, ccleaner can help if you don't know how to do it.
then apply ctupdate for your OS

it sounds like software if it isn't your power supply.

I just had issues with my Asus laptop freezing... sometimes it would lock up on boot, sometimes it would be fine for hours then just weirdly lock up. Made no sense because the laptop is only a couple years old.

Turns out it was the Creative drivers I installed and totally forgot about... removing them did the trick.
