there is a built in RythmBox which works fine for most all ipods after you do an ubuntu update
you shouldn't have to install it
the other ones mostly suck, really
the rythmbox software does work
it really is the most stable thing in debian distros for managing actual apple devices
just don't interrupt it while its updating stuff on your pod
or you'll have to reformat the pod
the amarok/kaffeinne/etc is really sluggish and will hanf more than rythmbox, which is simpler but stable
