Right.. Whenever I burn a CD, I cannot access the cd drives until I reboot, but I can still burn cd's
I have VIA KT133 chipset if that makes any odds, plus the new 4-1 drivers..

Occasionally my win2k system hangs after an otherwise successful cd burn.
Other apps continue to function in the background (like downloads) but I cant get any control thru kybd and mouse and have to use the power switch to reboot.
No solution, but you're not alone
The system in question is a BP6 mobo and hp burner and ezcd4 or cdrwin
I did have a batch of bad media which also caused this problem.
