I've been running blackbox on win2000 for a couple weeks, and it seems to run quite well, but a couple of programs which require being started in their program directory won't run properly from the blackbox menu. For example, there is a proggy i keep in c:\AW\FLEXlm which when launched directly (double-click the exe) creates a text file in that directory. If it's launched through the Blackbox menu, the text file ends up in the root of C: Alice doesn't even run through the bb menu...starts up and can't find the config file because it's looking for it in the C: root instead of in the program directory.

Is there a switch i can add to the command which will tell the program what directory to start in? What i'm looking for is apparently the same thing that windows uses in some shortcuts...the "Start in" field.

thanks.

from the responses, it seems those of you who have knowledge of cmd.exe are thinking "what the heck is he talking about?" In hopes of making it a bit clearer, Blackbox for windows doesn't use any special code....programs are launched in the exact same way as they are from a dos command prompt.

also...that one proggy in FLEXlm doesn't need to be run....i discovered that my mac address restores itself after i disconnect from the web, so i don't need to run that proggy anymore. It would be nice to be able to launch Alice without having to browse to its folder though....

Have you tried adding the path to Alice in the environment variables?

Right click "My Computer"
Click Properties
Click on "Advanced Tab"
Click "Environment Variables"
Add the needed path to the Path variable in the "System variables" section.
Click Ok
Click Ok

There you have just added a path to environmental variables.....

Nope...that didn't work. It may be because i don't know how to convert the path to dos format...but i'm not sure.
also...since i'm using Blackbox, i don't have a "My Computer" =o))

You do not have to convert it to DOS format. For a path that include spaces enclosed the path in double quotes.

"c:\Program Files\Digital Boneyard\myApp"; c:\java\jdk\1.4; c:\windows\system32; c:\windows
