You know buddy, drums is one of those instruments that its almost impossibble to describe with text, and drum tab is not going to help you if you can't get the feel of a rythm by listening. Your eyes are not going to help you understand timing. I strongly suggest you perservere with listening to tapes and trying to play along in time with them, not trying to copy, just try try to keep similiar timing. Then blow 40 bux and take 4 drum lessons from a live instructor who can show you the basic terms and rythms. You need someone to show you.
as Burroughs once said "talking about music is like dancing about architecture"
a flam is when you hit the snare at an angle with the stick held a bit more loosely in your fingers so it kind of "braps" across the head. The stick hits the head a couple times with the stroke but the individual hits are not clear, they run together or "flam".
Pay someone to show you in person man, or your just going to frustrate yourself.

you might check your library online catalog to see if they have a video on drumming basics or a book with lots of pictures and maybe a play along cd.

I just learned by playing along with a simple cd, The first eurythmics album. You may laugh, but the beats were simple and the tempo was slow enough that I could follow.
I didn't even have a kit. I used a high back chair facing me. I slapped my foot on the floor for a kik, used the seat for the snare, and used the top of the chair back for my hhat. After a while I got a practice pad to put on the chair so I could flam the "snare".

That way you focus on the core hat-snare-kik, which you need to master before you can do fancy stuff and hope to get back to the base rythm gracefully. The rest just came naturally for me after that and I never had to take a course or read a book or even ask anyone. You might want to remove your toms from the kit for a month or two and concentrate on the core.

Check out some of your local churches. Several local churches here have house bands.

Cant say I've ever tried the drums, so I cant really help....

All I can suggest is you download some Led Zeppelin and do a google search for John Bonham.
