I'm thinking about buying a stand-alone DVD player for my family this christmas. Seeing how budgets are pretty tight (and our TV's pretty crappy anyway), I'd like something as inexpensive as possible. On the other hand, if the really inexpensive players are more trouble than it's worth, then I'd rather not waste my money...

Any ideas what features to look for/beware? For me, a DVD player is a DVD player is a DVD player... don't need to play VCDs, or HDTV capabilities, or anything...

I had my eyes on this one (the price tag isn't bad), any thoughts? Or other recommendations? Any of you guys who have players, what models do you have and have they given you any headaches?

I can tell you if the Apex 1200 is any good in about a week. I bought a couple of them as xmas gifts. I also bought a 2500 (which is what I wanted to get everyone but could only find one) The $89.99 price is way too high. The apex 1200 can be found for $55. Of course you can't find them for that right now... the best I could find was $79.99 at sears (free shipping when I bought them).
