According to the TILC (True Internet Luser's Code), Section 4, Paragraph vii.....
"No person shall, without explanation, make casual use of an acronym until such time as said acronym has been deemed recognizible in and of itself. If, however, an unfamiliar acronym is properly explained via parenthetical inclusion of the original term or name from which said acronym is derived (see Section 3: Syntax), this acronym may be reused throughout a single article or post as many times as necessary without the need to include its full term or name more than once."
It goes on a bit more from there, but it's really rather dull reading...
