I waffled on whether this should go here or in the windows forum

I got this machine I built for a client. Brand new P4-1.6 on a ECS elite p4vmm2 motherboard(el cheapo).

The thing keeps freezing. No error messages, nothing in the event log. just hard freeze and no ability to crtl alt del out.

I swapped the ram, check the bios, and removed all the extra devices (cd, modem) and tsr's. Still does it.

So now I'm down to where it looks like its either the cpu or mobo being flakey, or a possible prob in the os (w2k with both sp2 and sp3).

I just snagged sisoft sandra 2003 but I haven't had a chance to test it yet so I don't know if it does what I need

My question is does anybody know of a diagnostic utility that will test for errors in the modo or cpu, or will help troubleshoot freeze errors like this?
