So i've got a ton of stuff in my room and i was just wondering how many outlets people use... cause the ones i have are limited and i'm not sure if it's ok.

My one main outlet has two surge protectors connected to it. The devices connected to those two surge protectors are:

Surge Protector 1
Computer
Monitor
Speakers
Cable Modem
Router
External HD (not always on)

Surge Protector 2
37" HDTV
Cable Box
Blu-Ray
Land Line

all that stuff is connected to one single outlet, so i'm wondering is that safe? I've never had an issue and the other outlets are a little too far to be connect things to. I use the other two outlets, one for the AC and the other for an alarm clock.

I'd like to eventually get a second monitor and a printer, but i don't even have space on the surge protects for that and i'm not sure it would be safe to do anyway.

well most likely that circuit is 15 amps, so calculate all the equipment amp usage and if it's over 12amps then you have a problem. you never want to use over 80% of the amps. now keep in mind that other receptacles are also on that curcuit and maybe a few lights.

my receptacle circuits are 20amps and lights are 15 amps and each room has it's own set. in the rooms that have a lot of gear I have two 20 amp receptacle circuits.

I was thinking that's a lot to be running off of a single outlet Val. But space is an issue for ya, what else can you do?

My home office has the most electrical devices running off of a single outlet, it's computer, monitor, 5.1 speaker system, external HDD, battery charger, powered hub & occasionally I plug my laptop into it but not much.

Get some tools, and start digging the walls for neighboring electrical lines. Splicing into a live line isn't that hard too do. wink

and you only get to mess up once, and after the first error, it won't matter. rofl

That is a lot to be running on one circuit (doesn't matter that it's one receptacle). Having an AC on the same circuit could be a big problem. When the compressor kits on it can dirty the line. Some older homes have two 15 amp circuits powering the receptacles in a room (half on one, half on the other). If that's your case, make sure to run AC on other circuit.

I ran new 15 and 20 amp circuits to my media room.

BTW, your poll is useless. It doesn't matter how many receptacles (outlets) you use. If you use two and they are on the same circuit, it would be the same as using just one of them for everything.

I have a Kill-a-watt and use it to measure my stuff so I know if the label is accurate. All that stuff is pushing the limit, especially with a powerful computer and inefficient monitor/tv. You shouldn't run into problems, but remember the AC can/will draw a full 15-20 amps by itself (especially on startup), so that will easily put you over.
